Hövding ”the invisible bicycle helmet” created by Anna Haupt and Terese Alstin a few years ago as part of their thesis project to improve the traditional bicycle helmet design. To put it simply the Hövding is a personal airbag system hidden inside a very stylish collar, the airbag is deployed by accelerometer and gyro sensors that pick up a bicyclist’s abnormal movements in the event of an accident. It charges via USB and even has a black box to record crash data, which I assume would be very helpful in improving the products sensors.
I doubt that this could forever replace the traditional bicycle helmet (I’d be the guy that always forgets to charge it) but this is an incredibly stylish alternative and a helluva lot better than no safety gear at all! This design is just absolutely gorgeous, both in form and function. You can watch a short video by Focus Foward Films for more info and then visit their website for more details and their online shop.
Special thanks to Might & Wonder for pointing this out to us.
